Video 1 : Jaimi & Alan
Jaimi: I’m Jaimi. I started at receiving doing forklift driving.
Alan: I’m Alan. I started off as a Forklift Operator in receiving, moved into CPS, reverse logistics, and also dispatch.
Jaimi: Once arriving to work, we will walk through those gates and clock in, and then we’ll go meet everyone we’re working with that day, and do our team huddle with our managers.
Alan: Throughout the day, management and LCs will keep us updated constantly on our pick rates, our KPIs, and how we are going.
Jaimi: After that, depending on what area you are in, we will go to receiving, which is forklift unloading. We’ll go to all-in-one, which is tote picking. CPS, which is more like a manual DC or dispatch, which is loading your trailers for your stores.
Alan: Towards the end of the shift, we like to leave a nice tidy area, to make sure that the next team coming in has best success to start their shift.
The biggest surprise for myself was the ongoing development and support from the leadership team, which brings me to my Logistics Coordinator position now.
Jaimi: My proudest moment has been seeing the warehouse being fully operational. I’ve been here since day one, where it was just a construction site. Definitely be a big proud moment for myself.
The best advice I can give is not to be nervous. Coles provide all the training you need, not only in the classroom, but also hands-on training which will actually prepare you for your first day.
Alan: I think the best piece of advice I could give to anyone would be to do it. A year ago, I started, and a year on now, and the Coles family, it’s wonderful.
Video 2: Constance & Elijah
Constance: My name is Constance, I’m currently a Team Manager here at the Automated Distribution Centre. I’m currently a Team Manager in dispatch, receiving CPS, and all-in-one.
Elijah: My name’s Elijah, I’m a Logistics Coordinator. Before that, I was a team member. I’ve worked in all-in-one and I’ve also worked in the receiving office.
Constance: They pretty much oversee all of the operations between dispatch, inventory, and receiving. We make sure that we are servicing our customers in the best way that we can, keeping in line with the automation, and different stakeholders as well.
Elijah: As a Logistics Coordinator, your job is to be the bridge between the team managers and the team members. Your job is also to ensure that the stock coming in is up to standard and anything that’s leaving the site is also up to standard.
So, the first thing we would do is clock-on, we would then move to our expected area, depending on where we’re stationed for that day.
Constance: From there, we would pretty much see what the expectation is for the shift from our Team Managers.
Elijah: Next step would be to get into our workflow.
Constance: So for dispatch, that would mean ensuring that our trucks are loaded to a high standard to service our customers at stores.
Elijah: And receiving that would be bringing the trucks in, making sure all the stock’s okay, and getting it in-fed into our in-feeds correctly.
Constance: The biggest surprise for me: the scale of the automation. Coming from a manual distribution centre myself, it was amazing to see where the future of logistics can head into with the help of automation.
Elijah: My proudest moment is being able to support team members and colleagues in multiple ways, every single day, and I really look forward to be able to do that every time I come to work.
Constance: My proudest moment so far was definitely stepping up into the Team Manager position after being in the Logistics Coordinator position. For me, it felt really nice to see that Coles was identifying me as a potential leader in the business and being able to grow in my skills as a manager.
Elijah: Give it 100%. There’s so much opportunity here and if you give it your all you really can succeed.
Constance: My advice would be to come in with an open mind. It’s definitely a piece in the future, our distribution centres moving forward, and how we can service our customers better in a more efficient way.
