First job FAQ
Generally, you will need to be at least 15 years of age to apply for employment with Coles. For some brands, other minimum age requirements apply. For example, for Coles Services, you will generally need to be at least 16 years of age to apply for employment. For Liquor, and distribution jobs, you will need to be at least 18 years of age. Minimum age requirements differ by state and territory. You will be required to provide your date of birth, which will be verified as part of the recruitment process. In some cases, we may need your parent or guardian's written permission to allow you to start working with us.
You can submit an Expression of Interest without a TFN however, you should have one before commencing employment. If you do not yet have a TFN, you can apply online via the ATO website or through a participating Auspost outlet. Applications are free, though processing can take several weeks, so it is best to apply early.
Yes, all team members who are employed must have the right to work in Australia. We will request documentation from you to demonstrate your right to work in Australia during the application process and you will need to upload original documents to your profile, which may include:
- Australian or foreign passport or
- Australian birth certificate and photo ID or
- Australian citizenship certificate and photo ID
When submitting your Expression of Interest (EOI), you can add a preferred location to help us match you with roles near where you live or want to work. You can also explore opportunities in your local stores by using our search functionality to find jobs by distance from your current location.
On your first day, team members should wear a plain black t-shirt with black pants and closed-toe black shoes while awaiting the arrival of their Coles Polo. Two polos are provided, and odering details are shared during onboarding.
